Madalena’s Bar
Now a South Fremantle icon, Madalena’s Bar takes its inspiration from the casual botecos of São Paulo, Barcelona and Rome, where owners Joel and Danny travelled and became inspired. They wanted a visual identity that felt classic, warm and friendly, aligning with the bar’s smart interiors, seafood-centric menu and welcoming neighbourhood atmosphere.
The brand identity combines a custom script logo with a no-nonsense sans serif for a nostalgic European feel, alongside a versatile monogram for use on glassware, signage and digital applications. To bring extra character, I created a series of simple, hand-drawn illustrations that appear across menus, merchandise and other touchpoints. The window signage was hand-painted in collaboration with artist Bruno Booth, adding to the crafted feel. Since opening in 2019, Madalena’s has gone on to receive multiple national awards, including being named Best Restaurant in Western Australia by the WA Good Food Guide.
