In the Beginning

As part of the City of Melville’s WRITE CLUB program, Year 6 students at Caralee Community School collaborated with author Deb Fitzpatrick to write original stories inspired by the theme ‘In the Beginning’. Artist Zali Morgan then guided the students through creating their own lino-cut prints to accompany each story. The result was a heartfelt anthology celebrating imagination, creativity, and community storytelling.

The design for In the Beginning celebrates the spirit of growth and possibility. A bold, hand-crafted aesthetic was developed using textured illustration, simple forms, and a vibrant orange palette to echo the warmth and energy of the students’ work. The book design extended into exhibition materials for the accompanying showcase, where the stories and lino prints were displayed side by side—bringing the students’ creative journey to life.
